GPT-OSS 120B is OpenAI's large open-weight model: about 117 billion parameters in a mixture-of-experts design, with roughly 5.1 billion working on each token. Its MXFP4 weights fit on one 80 GB GPU, such as an H100 or an A100. The model file is about 65 GB, so the first start takes noticeably longer than it does for smaller models.
In short
GPT-OSS 120B runs on cards with 80 GB or more. The most affordable suitable card right now is the A800 PCIe 80 GB from 87 ₽ per hour, billed by the minute.

You need a card with 80 GB of video memory: the weights take about 65 GB, and the 32,768-token context needs most of the rest. An H100 SXM with 80 GB or an A100 SXM4 with 80 GB will do. 48 GB cards such as the L40S and RTX A6000 are too small, because the model will not fit in them whole. If a smaller model is enough, GPT-OSS 20B runs on 16 GB.

The larger model is usually more reliable on hard tasks: reasoning, code, long texts. OpenAI puts it close to the o4-mini class on reasoning tasks. The model offers levels of reasoning effort: a deeper setting gives more careful answers and takes longer. Replies are generally slower than with GPT-OSS 20B.
| GPU | Memory | Fits GPT-OSS 120B |
|---|---|---|
| RTX 4090 | 24 GB | no: the weights do not fit |
| RTX A6000 or L40S | 48 GB | no: it does not fit whole |
| H100 SXM | 80 GB | yes |
| A100 SXM4 | 80 GB | yes |
The template is sized for one 80 GB card. On smaller cards the model runs slowly or does not start at all. For how memory is counted for different models, see the VRAM guide for LLMs.
The API lives at https://<id>-11434.run.gpu.nz/v1 and follows the OpenAI format. For shared load with several parallel requests, the vLLM template is the better fit; this chat suits single sessions and checks.
curl "https://<id>-11434.run.gpu.nz/v1/chat/completions" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer <token>" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"model": "gpt-oss:120b", "messages": [{"role": "user", "content": "Draft a plan for migrating a database without downtime."}]}'The first reply comes once the model has loaded into memory. After that it stays there while the server runs, so repeat requests do not wait for a load.
